About SUSTAIN – The Earth Charter and Sustainable Bournemouth Partnership.

SUSTAIN is the body that supports Bournemouth’s activities towards the Earth Charter and locally agreed sustainability commitments.

SUSTAIN was formed in 2011, by the merger of two existing bodies – the Earth Charter Leadership Group and the Bournemouth 2026 Sustaining Our Environment Forum. Membership consists of representatives from local environment groups, schools, faith groups, the Council and others.

Bournemouth Borough Council became the first local authority in the UK to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability and ecological integrity by endorsing the Earth Charter in 2008. The Bournemouth 2026 Trust has also endorsed the Earth Charter as a means of ensuring sustainability in Bournemouth's Community Strategy.
